Margaret Thatcher once said, “If you want something said, ask a man. If you want something done, ask a woman.”
When I transitioned into entrepreneurship, I realized that I had a distinct advantage as a mother: thanks to my kids, I developed an invaluable skillset. Being a mom forced me to learn how to multitask, prioritize, and stay intellectually flexible.
Because I didn’t have a choice! It didn’t matter if I didn’t want to, or if I was exhausted. And I discovered that I could do it.
As women, let’s embrace our way of leadership!
Candor- we’re not afraid to be open and honest. We’re raising our kids to be truthful for a reason. We model this in our businesses.
Empathy- we genuinely care about our team members. At home, we break up sibling squabbles by teaching our kids to be compassionate- to see things from their sister’s side of things. It’s reasonable to expect this in your business relationships.
Clarity- When it comes to our kids, we learn how to give clear directions- we state what we need them to do. Clarity is when we say what we mean, and we mean what we say. Clarity models integrity.
We have the superpower to create safe spaces in our companies where our people thrive. When our people are healthy, our businesses thrive too!
